The mode of transmission of H1N1 flu is the same way that the regular “seasonal influenza” spreads, which is through the air from coughs and sneezes. It can also be acquired by touching or getting too close to infected people. It cannot be transmitted from eating cooked pork and there are no confirmed cases of anyone becoming infected with this new strain by being in contact with pigs.

The first confirmed case of Swine flu was confirmed by Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque.

A 10-year-old girl, along with her parents flew in last May 18, 2009. The girl was able to pass the thermal scanner. On May 19, 2009, the parents reported that she started having fever, cough and sore throat. So the parents brought her to the hospital. After careful examinations done by RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine) , the girl was confirmed to be suffering from the virus.

RITM assured the public that the victim has been given necessary medications and she’s responding well to them. There is no more fever, just complaining of her sore throat. The members of the family were quarantined and given prophylaxis to prevent further the spread of the virus. They were also advised to stay in their homes for the mean time.
