How Stress Can Make Us Look Ugly

Stress seems to be a normal part of life.  Not anyone is free from stress as long as we care. The damaging effects can be mild to severe depending on our ability to cope up with these stresses. Now, we don’t like stress to ruin our natural beauty so here are some facts on how stress can make us look ugly that might serve as a motivation not to let stress overpower us.

Hair

Our hair reflects how physically and emotionally healthy we are. If we are not physically and emotionally well, our hair will become dry, dull and lifeless.  Severe stress can either cause our hair to become waxy due to over-secretion of oils or sebum by the sebaceous glands, to easily fall out or to turn our black hair to gray. Constant stress can even lead to hair loss. This happens because stress chemicals or toxins affect our hair follicles and our hair’s normal growth activity.

Eyes

Our eyes are said to be the windows of our souls that is why other people can easily see if we are in stress.  We might not notice that our eye’s pupils dilate as our body’s natural reaction to stress.   But the appearance of dark circles under our eyes are very obvious, making us look tired and sickly even if we think we’re just fine.  This is a symptom of stress and lack of sleep which signals you to rest and lie low for a while.  In addition, stress can make your eyes dry and your vision blurry.

Skin

Frequent exposure to stress makes the skin susceptible to skin rashes and irritations from outside pollutants. Stress can weaken our immune system, making us prone to skin disorders and diseases. It can also aggravate a pre-existing skin allergy, creates premature wrinkles and encourages premature skin aging.  This is due to the decrease in the flow of blood and oxygen as a result of stress that also cause skin discoloration and pale or dull appearance.
