The First Block Against ERAP

Former President Joseph Estrada’s proclamation of running for presidency last Wednesday was not a shock to most people.  However, it is also a given that not all will be delighted with his candidacy, Oliver Lozano in particular.  Lozano challenged Erap’s candidacy in what the Comelec Chair Jose Melo describes as “too early.” Since Erap has not yet officially filed for his candidacy, there is still the probability that he may change his mind before the filing period which will start 20th of November this year.

Melo said in his statement in INQUIRER that “You only oppose if the man has filled his candidacy.”  The former president spokesperson Margaux Salcedo also said in his statement in the INQUIRER that the Lozano’s complaint was “so obviously premature that it almost seems as if Attorney Lozano is either making a mockery of the Comelec or deliberately making a laughingstock of himself to make headlines.”  Just think of this: why complain of something that is not yet done?  The Comelec would surely entertain his petition if Lozano waited for Estrada to officially file for his candidacy.  Still Lozano persevered, insisting that his complaint is not premature and should be taken seriously by the Comelec.  The absence of a certificate for candidacy is just a “mere technicality,” and should be ignored to uphold justice.

Lozano is termed by many as an Ambulance-chasing lawyer; a lawyer that is believed to be looking for cases just to make money, or to create a scene.  He was the first to file an impeachment case against Arroyo in 2005 for corruption charges. However, the case was dismissed for lawyers believed that his case lacks merit.  Currently, he believes that he is eligible to run for presidency, and has said so to the Comelec.  He said that if Rep Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. would run for candidacy, he will give way and let the former president’s son to do so.

  • Hi Mica!

Personally, I am not a big fan of former Pres. Estrada. I am shocked when I heard that he still has the guts to run for a candidacy this coming election. He was already imprisoned because of his wrong doings and I think the first president to be impeached. I remember that day, classes were suspended because of that. hehe.. The funny thing is during his imprisonment days, he is always sick. I wonder where all those sickness now.

Anyways, what is happening in the Philippines. No offense to the supporters of Senator Trillanes but I think it is not right. You committed treason in our country and you are in jail yet he was allowed to run and eventually won a spot as a senator.

Going back to Estrada, I think he will just become a puppet controlled by opportunist politicians or high ranking officials.

In the end, we must vote wisely this coming election. Philippines had suffered a lot and it’s time to wake up and stand up to raise our flag once again proudly.
