Where to Find Online Jobs

We have discussed about online jobs and the types of online jobs usually available in the job market in our previous post. Now, we will be tackling about where to find them.

Here is the list of job marketplaces where you can find online jobs.

Odesk.com - is an online marketplace for both employers and freelancers. This is where you can post your company’s job vacancies and select from among thousands of skilled workers around the world. For freelancers, this is the safest and most trusted place to work online. It was founded since 2003 and currently has over 364,972 providers (freelancers) and still growing.  The site is so easy to navigate and has various support programs like community forums, learning center, feedback & suggestion forum and online support representatives.  You are also not limited to being a provider (freelancer) as you can also be a buyer (employer) on the site at the same time by outsourcing jobs in and out of Odesk. Odesk charge buyers 11% service fee at the same time, collects a payment processing fee everytime a provider withdraws his/her earnings on the site. Odesk Corporation is located at Suite 100, Menlo Park, California, USA.

Elance.com - is also a global marketplace and works similar to Odesk. It was established since 1999 and currently has 99,908 providers (freelancers) as of this posting.  The only difference I have seen is that projects can be escrowed in Elance unlike in Odesk where taking a big amount of project is a risk.  You need to demand a down-payment for big projects in Odesk for security while in Elance, fund availability of buyers is ensured through an escrow, meaning the buyer deposit the project amount in advance with Elance before starting the project.  Elance deducts 6.75% to 8-75% from each payment made by the buyer to cover its service fee and payment processing cost, leaving the remaining amount to the provider’s account. Elance Headquarters is situated in Suite 150, Mountain View, California, USA.

LimeExchange.com - was formed in 2006 which office is in New York, NY, USA.  Currently, it has over 36,000 providers from over 150 countries in the world.  Most of them are from India (21,471), followed by Americans (8,397), some are from Pakistan (2,810) and Philippines (2,248) and the rest are from United Kingdom (1,683).  The website interface is also friendly as Odesk and it supports escrow projects like Elance. But unlike Odesk, LimeExchange does not charge any fee to buyers.  You (the provider/freelancer) may join through their free basic membership plan but should you want to have more job privileges, benefits and special offers, LimeExchange collects a membership fee for membership plan upgrade. As to how much, it was not disclosed in the FAQ portion.

GetAFreelancer.com - started in February 2004, owned by Ignition Networks Pty. Limited and is regulated by Australian and Swedish laws.  Their office address is at Double Bay, NSW, Australia.  It has 1,154 verified users and 665 projects as of this time.  Joining the site is free and the buyer’s first or trial project is also free. Afterwards buyers will be charged a certain fee depending on the type of posting used. The provider is charged $5 or 10% project fee whichever is higher for every successful project paid by an employer. Both buyer and provider can apply for a gold membership plan to avail of discounts.

Guru.com - begun in 1998 as SoftMoonlighter.com then later purchased this domain name “guru.com” in 2003.  Their office is located at Suite 760, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  As per their own site statistics, they have over 1 million registered members and more than 100,000 freelancers, 56% are from the US while the remaining 44% are from Canada, India and Ukraine. Their employers are mostly located in US (81%) while the rest is mainly from Australia, Canada and United Kingdom. Their service is completely free for employers (buyers) while they offer 3 types/plans of membership for freelancers. Basic membership is free but the project fee is 10% of your earnings. You have to pay for the other 2 types of membership, i.e. guru and guru vendor.  However the site is being complained from having a strong employer bias since it follows its founder, Mr. Guglani’s philosophy that states “I make sure that my subscribers know that they are not my customer - the employer is”.

Axiondata.com - outsource purely data entry services. It was established in 1996 and has over 15,000 registered data entry operators. Their workforce consist of solely Americans or American residents. It has no job opening as of the moment.

Jobstreet.com - is not an outsourcing agency like the above-mentioned sites but a job search site where you can view job vacancies all over Asia and deposit your resume for employer’s viewing.  You may also subscribe to job alerts using your email address.  It does not act as a middleman or third party like outsourcing agencies who earn commissions from a freelancer’s successful projects, it is simply a job listing site which you can freely access over the internet.
