Why I decided to study Culinary Arts?

When I was in elementary and high school, I used to watch my dad prepare meals and cook for us. I’m always in the mood to eat whenever it was my dad who’s preparing our meal. I’m not saying that my mom is a bad cook but it’s just that I have observed that my dad gave more emphasis on giving flavor, using proper techniques of cooking and serving food with a little style.

This is when and how my dream, to be able to start my own food business and to become a chef, started.

Many of us are aware that studying Culinary Arts can very much expensive. We couldn’t afford it especially with my mom’s condition (Kidney Failure / CVD). At the time when I looked around for the most inexpensive culinary school, I couldn’t find anything less than 100,000 pesos. I said to myself, “nakakahiya namang mag-aral ng ganun, dahil sobrang mahal”.

So, I decided to take on a different path and I studied Computer Science at University of the Philippines. After 2 years, I shifted to BS Nursing at Emilio Aguinaldo College and I’ll be graduating this October 30, 2009.

A couple of months ago, while waiting for my dad who filed my mom’s documents on PhilHealth’s office at Quezon Avenue, I immediately saw SKD Academy, a culinary school. I came inside and inquired about their culinary courses. It was really a blessing because they were offering 50% discount to people interested in studying for that month of June. Even if I was far yet from graduation at that time, I grabbed the opportunity and had my self a reservation.

Last October 22, 2009 was my first day of classes at SKD Academy. :)

Culinary arts? Are you already shifting to another career away from earning online?

I hope you find success in it. Take care!

    • Cooking and Baking is my passion and it’s what I dreamt of doing ever since I was a kid. But this doesn’t mean I’m leaving my SEO / Work from Home career… :) I also love working from home and doing SEO. For me, its a lot of fun and challenge. I just want to be flexible. My cousins were joking of what they’d call me: “Nurse Micah” or “Chef Micah” since I’m a nursing graduate as well. :) hehe

    Hi,

How was your class in SKD? Are they TESDA accredited? How much is the fee? Thanks very much.

    • I only stayed there for like a couple of weeks since I had to take care of my mom. I would say that there were lots of studying about theories and everything. Comparing to other more lucrative schools like Cafe Isabel and CCA, they lack hands-on activities and application. But they’re a good school as well.

Hello there! I’ve been searching everywhere for any course details in SKD. They haven’t been returning my e-mails. Around how much did it cost you to study in SKD? And what course did you take? Thankies! :)

    • I think they were offering discounts at that time so mga around 25k lang ata un.. but im not sure now if they still offer it. You can drop by their office. Sa Quezon Avenue, just before Pegasus. Sa likod sila ng PhilHealth located.
